Description
This is a very nice, silver, very low mintage,
"Three Kreuzer"
from the
"Free State"
of Frankfurt am Main
in Germany. This specific type was struck with 10 dates between 1846 and 1856. The highest mintage date was just 950,010 pieces in 1849. This 1851 date, with 157,720 pieces, was the third highest mintage for the type.
"Frankfurt am Main"
or
"on the Main River"
started as a Roman fort in the first century. It became an important mint in the Middle Ages and one of the most important cities in the Holy Roman Empire. The Emperor was elected there for many years. It was a
"Free City"
until 1866 when it chose the wrong side in the
"Austro-Prussian War"
and was absorbed into Prussia. It was severely bombed during World War II.
Weight: 1.27 Gram, 17 Millimeter, .333 Silver. Mintage: 157,720.
As a comparison, the famous 1909-S V.D.B. Lincoln Cent had a mintage of 484,000 pieces.

The Coin:
A pleasing, moderately circulated, fully original specimen. It saw some use and earned some honest wear and dirt. It has never been cleaned and is scarcer as such. As grading is subjective, please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
